The festival’s core objective is to promote emotional expression, self-awareness, confidence, and healthy identity formation among vulnerable youth. Through art, games, storytelling, drama, and group play, participants discover their talents, voice their emotions, and learn to see themselves in a positive light.

Since its inception, three editions of the festival have been held across three renowned care homes in Accra. In 2025, the rebranded Recreational Festival brought together approximately 200 young people from both orphanages and the surrounding community—creating a powerful environment of inclusion, mutual learning, and shared joy.

Trained facilitators and mental health professionals guide activities, ensuring that every game and creative session is also an opportunity for emotional release and psychological growth. Children leave not only with new skills and friendships but also with a stronger sense of who they are and what they can become.
