Who We Are
We Are Dora Awuah Foundation
Mental health challenges affect all ages,
often beginning in adolescence—a critical stage for resilience and lifelong well-being
In Ghana, conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, and substance use are widespread, yet access to care remains limited. With only three psychiatric hospitals and reliance on prayer camps due to cost barriers, the treatment gap is severe.
The World Health Organisation’s Mental Health Action Plan (2013–2030) calls for prevention and early intervention, urging governments and NGOs to protect vulnerable groups. Adolescents, in particular, need targeted support to build coping skills, intentional practices, and resilience against long-term challenges.
Founded by Dr. (Mrs.) Dora Awuah, the Dora Awuah Foundation responds to this need by prioritising adolescent mental health. With the support of young community volunteers and dedicated mental health professionals, the Foundation delivers awareness campaigns, psychoeducation, and creates a safe space for learning self-help coping strategies. By combining passion, professional expertise, and community collaboration, it empowers adolescents to live intentionally, foster resilience, and reduce vulnerability to mental health issues.
